It all started when…
One cold and dark February night, I was born during a snow storm in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio. My name is Kassondra Yount. Graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Graphic Design Degree with a minor in Cinema Studies. My artwork is split between digital work for graphic design and drawings of real life. I find movies to be the greatest form of visual communication, and feel very connected to them. Most of my work is influenced by the horror movie genre in particular, as the psychological elements of design are what interests me the most.
Artist Statement
My work is often emotionally tied to what I personally feel at the time, but overall there is a general sense of isolation and loneliness within my pieces. These themes have been present in my artwork since high school, with my AP art collection reflecting quiet moments in my day to day life at the time. My material list depends on the artwork, but often I will put the materials used in the title if it’s just an experimental piece. I prefer to draw, but I feel comfortable working with other media like paintings or digital design. Essentially, my work process is often sketching out what I want while taking notes for further research. While I generally feel inspired by movies, more specifically I will emulate certain techniques used in film with my artwork, for example, my ink drawing within my portfolio have both the full view from the perspective of the driver as well as the world behind them through the driver’s mirror as this is a common shot within films.
